"Andrew Jackson was nicknamed Old Hickory after the Hickory tree which produced very tough wood. Jackson was tough like the wood. His men nicknamed Old Hickory when he marched them from Natchez Mississippi back to Tennessee around 1815. Jackson became an American Hero for his defeat of the British in the Battles of New Orleans, January 8 1815. He went on to become the 7th president of the United States.
